Nishnawbe-Aski Nation
Originally founded as Grand Council Treaty 9 in 1973, Nishnawbe Aski Nation (1981) is a political organization representing 49 First Nation communities across the territory of James Bay Treaty 9 and Treaty 5 – an area spanning two-thirds of Ontario.
NAN territory spans west to the Manitoba border, east to the Quebec border and north of the 51st parallel to the coasts of James and Hudson’s Bays. The population of NAN territory is approximately 45,000, covering an area of approximately 200,000 square miles. The languages within NAN include Ojibway, Ojicree and Cree.
Project Beyshick was launched in 2005 as a joint initiative of Nishnawbe Aski Nation and POA Educational Foundation. We aim to spread this project to other aboriginal communities across Canada. More at www.nan.on.ca
Nepal Study Center (NSC)
Nepal Study Center (NSC) at the University of New Mexico has been established to advance knowledge sharing among a global network of Nepali and non-Nepali scholars who are interested in policy work on Nepal and the countries in the Himalayan region and South Asia. The Center is broadly interested in the issues of development, democracy, conflict and the environment. It is engaged in a variety of activities: research, publication of journals and newsletter, creation of electronic research repository, and educational collaboration with universities in USA and Nepal. Further, NSC is active in organizing workshops and conferences that relate to the advancement of knowledge regarding economic development, environment, trade, health, socio-economic issues, gender and ethnic biases, governance, poverty, knowledge economy, globalization, water resources, democratization, human rights, and conflict resolution in the region.
